A Day in the Life of an Australian Buffalo Guide
At the end of our trip to Australia, we extended our stay to spend one wild day with
Karl Goodhand, one of the most experienced buffalo guides in the Northern
Territory. Karl runs Goodhand Experiences and has spent years guiding hunters
deep into Arnhem Land, chasing Banteng and Water Buffalo in some of the most
remote and unforgiving landscapes on earth.
This wasn't your average adventure. With two helicopters loaded up, we flew into
the heart of Australia's Top End, surrounded by wetlands, floodplains, and endless
wild country. Along the way, we discovered the history of how these tough animals
— around 80 buffalo brought over in the 1800s — adapted and thrived across
Northern Australia.
From the thrill of the hunt to the sheer scale of the Outback, this is what a “normal
Tuesday” looks like for Karl... but for us, it was the experience of a lifetime.
